An Elmhurst woman is in the DuPage County Jail facing a felony aggravated battery charge after she allegedly struck a police officer who had stopped her for drunken driving on West Adelaide Street.

Andriana Huizar, 26, of the 500 block of West Third Street, was arrested around 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, in the 100 block of West Adelaide Street, according to Elmhurst police incident reports compiled by Patch. Officers charged her with aggravated battery to a police officer, DUI, driving an uninsured vehicle, and transporting open alcohol.

The battery occurred after an officer stopped Huizar and charged her with DUI, according to the incident report.

Under Illinois statute, aggravated battery of a peace officer is typically classified as a Class 2 felony, which carries three to seven years in prison and fines up to $25,000. Court filings in Huizar's case have not been publicly released. No court date has been announced.

The arrest leads a busy stretch for the Elmhurst Police Department. Officers booked four additional drivers on DUI charges over the weekend of Aug. 1–3, marking a third consecutive weekend of multiple DUI arrests. EPD arrested six drivers the July 25–27 weekend and three more the July 18–20 weekend.

Among the latest DUI arrests:

  • An 84-year-old Elmhurst man from the 1000 block of South Euclid Avenue was stopped around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at York and Wilson streets. He was charged with DUI, improper lighting, disobeying a stop sign, and improper lane usage, then released from the police station.
  • A 20-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 1 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, in the 100 block of Schiller Street on charges of DUI, loud muffler noise, and underage alcohol consumption. He was released.
  • A 42-year-old Villa Park man was arrested around 4:30 a.m. Sunday at Grand Avenue and Lake Street on charges of DUI, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, improper lighting, driving uninsured, and possessing open alcohol. He was released.
  • A 27-year-old Bloomingdale man was arrested around 8 a.m. Sunday at 265 S. Route 83 on a DUI charge and released.

Storage unit burglary

Separately, someone broke into Extra Space Storage at 160 W. Industrial Drive on Thursday, July 23, entering through the roof and stealing items from multiple units. The investigation remains open.

Drug arrests

A 32-year-old Chicago woman and a 41-year-old Algonquin woman were arrested around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, July 30, at North and Berteau avenues on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Both were taken to DuPage County Jail.

A 37-year-old Joliet man was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Sunday at Grand Avenue and Industrial Drive on the same drug charges plus driving uninsured and having a suspended registration. He was also jailed.
