A Minecraft Movie screens free on the Wilder Park lawn Friday, Aug. 7, closing out the Elmhurst Park District's summer outdoor movie series six days before District 205 students head back to class.
The park district and the Elmhurst Public Library are co-hosting the final Movie in the Park of the season at 175 S. Prospect Ave., according to the Elmhurst Park District. Gates open at 7 p.m., and the film rolls at dusk. Admission is free.
The annual partnership between the two organizations brings the recurring series back to the same Wilder Park lawn each summer. The park district, led by Board President Kevin Graf, hosted a screening of the film Wicked as a prior season's finale at the same location.
Before the movie starts, families can browse yard games and visit with event sponsors. Two food trucks will be parked on site: Candycopia, the family-owned candy and pick-and-mix shop with a storefront at 116 N. York St. in downtown Elmhurst, and Panziz, a Bloomingdale-based Italian street-food truck known for hand-stuffed panzerotti.
The timing works as a natural summer send-off. District 205's first day of school for the 2026-27 year is Thursday, Aug. 13, according to the district's academic calendar, giving families six days between the screening and the first bell.
The event is held rain or shine. In the case of severe weather, the park district will post updates on its Facebook page and the EPD Rainout Line.
