Polls open at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, and close at 7 p.m. for the general election across Illinois, according to Fox 32 Chicago. Voters in line by 7 p.m. will still be allowed to cast ballots.

Here is what Elmhurst, Villa Park and Oakbrook Terrace residents will find on their ballots and how to vote.

How to find your polling place

The Illinois State Board of Elections offers a polling place lookup tool at ova.elections.il.gov. Voters should confirm their assigned location before heading out because polling places can differ from early voting sites, according to Fox 32.

The DuPage County Election Commission also lists polling places on its website. For questions, voters can call the commission at 630-407-5600.

Same-day registration

Unregistered voters can still register and vote at their polling place on Election Day through Illinois' grace period registration, according to Elmhurst's voter information page. Applicants must bring two forms of identification, with at least one showing a current address.

Key local races

The ballot listed by the Elmhurst Independent covers voters in Elmhurst, Villa Park, Oakbrook Terrace and surrounding DuPage County communities. Races that touch these towns directly include:

45th State House District: Democratic incumbent Martha "Marti" Deuter, a former Elmhurst alderman, faces Republican Gina Parrilli, according to Patch.

23rd State Senate District: Democratic Sen. Suzanne "Suzy" Glowiak Hilton, in office since 2019, runs against Republican Linda Z. Polacek.

DuPage County sheriff: Democrat Peter Joseph Coolidge and Republican Sean T. Noonan are competing to succeed Republican James Mendrick, who did not seek a third term, Patch reported. Noonan won the Republican primary after defeating undersheriff Eddie Moore.

Forest Preserve District 1: Democrat Susan M. Smentek and Republican Carolyn Ubriaco, both Elmhurst park board members, are on the ballot. Patch reported the two took opposite sides of a dispute over where to build a bandshell at Wilder Park. Smentek joined the majority to place it near Wilder Mansion; Ubriaco sided with the minority.

Congressional races on area ballots

Several U.S. House districts overlap the coverage area. The candidate list published by the Elmhurst Independent includes the 3rd, 4th, 6th and 8th Congressional Districts. Which race appears on a voter's ballot depends on their precinct.

In the 4th Congressional District, four candidates are running to succeed outgoing Democratic Rep. Chuy Garcia: Democrat Patty Garcia, Republican Lupe Castillo, Working Class Party candidate Ed Hershey and independent Chris Getty, according to Patch. Garcia, who served as the departing congressman's chief of staff, ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

The 6th District features Democrat Sean Casten against Republican Niki Conforti.

Statewide contests

Every ballot will include races for U.S. Senate, governor, attorney general, secretary of state, comptroller and treasurer. Democrat Juliana Stratton faces Republican Don Tracy for U.S. Senate. Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker, running with Christian Mitchell, faces Republican Darren Bailey, running with Aaron B. Del Mar.

Two school ballot questions

District 45 tax-rate increase: DuPage County School District 45 is asking voters to raise the property tax limiting rate by 0.267 percentage points above the 2025 levy year rate. If approved, the approximate tax extension would rise from $45,348,520 to $49,444,753. For a home with a fair market value of $100,000, the estimated additional tax for the 2026 levy year would be $89.

District 88 bond referendum: DuPage High School District 88 seeks $118 million in bonds for safety, accessibility, roofing, mechanical and career-and-technical-education improvements at Addison Trail and Willowbrook high schools. According to District 88's referendum page, the district says the bonds would come with no net tax rate increase because existing referendum debt will be paid off after levy year 2026.

Mail-in ballots

Mail-in ballots must be postmarked no later than Election Day. The Villa Park Public Library's voting information page warns that "postmark" means the date the post office processes the mail, not the day it is dropped off. Voters mailing ballots on Election Day should use a ballot drop box or ask a postal clerk to postmark it immediately. A drop box is available at Elmhurst City Hall, according to the city's voter information page.

Polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday across DuPage County.
