DuPage County voters heading to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 3, will find prosecutors and investigators stationed across the county to watch for Election Code violations.
DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin announced his office will deploy teams of Assistant State's Attorneys and investigators to canvass polling places throughout the county on Election Day, according to the Elmhurst Independent. The teams will be available from 6 a.m., when polls open, through close at 7 p.m.
Staff from the State's Attorney's Office will also maintain contact throughout the day and evening with officials at the DuPage County Clerk's Office in Wheaton.
Berlin said the practice is not new.
"As we have done in every election since I became State's Attorney, my office will once again deploy teams of Assistant State's Attorneys and Investigators throughout DuPage County to canvass polling places and to respond to suspected violations of the Election Code," Berlin said.
Local law enforcement officers and sheriff's deputies will also be available to respond to issues at polling places, Berlin said. He added that his office does not anticipate problems but is prepared to investigate allegations of voter fraud or interference. Anyone suspected of such behavior could face criminal prosecution, he said.
The announcement did not specify how many teams will be deployed or how many polling locations exist countywide. It is also unclear whether teams will be stationed at individual sites or will rove among multiple locations.
Elmhurst residents with questions or concerns about activity at any DuPage County polling place on Election Day can call the DuPage County Clerk at (630) 407-5600 or the State's Attorney's Office Election Hotline at (630) 407-8118.
Polls are open Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
