Elmhurst residents heading to Courts Plus on Thursday, July 30, will find the fitness floor and group exercise studios open again, but the entire lower level of the facility remains off-limits after the Monday, July 27, storm flooded it.
The Elmhurst Park District announced Wednesday, July 29 that power has been restored and the facility will resume regular hours Thursday. The reopening comes three days after the storm knocked out electricity at Courts Plus and eight other Park District sites, as we reported Tuesday.
The main level, including the fitness floor, group exercise classes, and martial arts programming, will operate normally.
What stays closed
The lower level took flood damage and will remain shut "until further notice," the Park District said. That includes:
- Tennis courts
- Locker rooms
- Pool area
- Kids Plus
- Racquetball and basketball courts
- Massage rooms
The pool was already closed for scheduled annual maintenance through Sunday, August 9, before the storm hit. Whether the flood damage extends that timeline is unclear.
Refunds and next steps
The Park District said it will issue refunds for all canceled tennis and martial arts programs, as well as tennis court reservations. Additional updates will be posted at epd.org as they become available.
Flood restoration and cleanup are in progress. The district has hired an engineering firm to assess and address the lower-level flooding, though no cost estimate or completion date has been released.
The storm's effects continue to ripple across the area. As of Wednesday, July 29, Villa Park's Lufkin Park splash pad also remained closed due to a lingering power outage, and Monday's storms left roughly 62,000 customers without power across the region, as we reported Wednesday.
