A 21-year-old motorcyclist died Tuesday, Oct. 27, after colliding with a box truck at Grand Avenue and Lamont Road in north Elmhurst during rush hour.
The Glendale Heights man was riding a Honda motorcycle westbound on Grand Avenue about 4:30 p.m. when he collided with an eastbound box truck at the intersection, according to the Elmhurst Police Department, reported by Patch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said they are withholding the man's name pending family notification.
The truck driver, identified as a 61-year-old Schaumburg man, remained at the crash site and cooperated with investigators, police said. No cause for the collision has been released.
The crash shut down westbound Grand Avenue between Church Road and Lake Street for hours while investigators worked the scene, according to NBC Chicago. Officials directed drivers to use westbound Lake Street or westbound I-290 as alternate routes.
The road reopened at approximately 10:15 p.m., according to WGN-TV.
Police said they are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Elmhurst Police Department at 630-530-3050.
