Courts Plus and eight other Elmhurst Park District facilities lost power Monday, July 27, forcing closures of pools, recreation centers, and a dog park with no timeline for restoration.

The Park District announced that Courts Plus will remain closed through at least Tuesday, July 28, according to a notice posted at 5:20 p.m. Monday on epd.org. No reopening date has been set for the other eight sites.

The full closure list: Courts Plus, Smalley Pool, East End Pool, Kies Recreation Center, The Hub, Safety Town, Wilder Park Conservatory, Ray Graham Early Learning Center, and Canine Corner Dog Park. All were closed "until further notice," the Elmhurst Park District said in a separate announcement Monday.

All nine remain closed.

Summer campers sent home early

Power outages also hit Emerson Elementary School and Hawthorne Elementary School, where the Park District runs summer camp programs. The district emailed parents Monday asking them to pick up children at their earliest convenience and said staff would stay with campers until 3 p.m.

After Camp Care was cancelled for Monday, July 27. The Park District said credits would be issued to affected families. Parents unable to retrieve children by 3 p.m. were directed to call 630-993-8922 with their child's name.

The district said it had no estimated time for power restoration at any of the affected sites.

Courts Plus already in maintenance window

Courts Plus, the district's two-floor fitness facility, had already begun scheduled annual maintenance closures. Its swimming pool, whirlpool, and dry sauna were set to be closed from Saturday, July 25, through Sunday, August 9, according to a Park District Facebook post. The entire facility was scheduled to close at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 25, for cleaning. The storm outage on Monday compounded the planned shutdown, leaving Courts Plus without power during what was already a scheduled maintenance period.

What's next

The Park District has not announced when the nine facilities will reopen. Residents can check epd.org and the district's Facebook page for updates.
