Elmhurst University captain Bo Smith shot a 2-under-par 70 in the opening round at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Fall Invitational on Monday, Sept. 14. His two-round total of 1-over 145 led the Bluejays' men's golf team to a seventh-place team finish at Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wis., according to the Elmhurst athletics department.

Smith's first-round 70 was the low round of the tournament for any Bluejay. He shot a 75 in the second round but still earned a share of seventh place individually.

Mason Stieler moved in the opposite direction. After a first-round 77, Stieler posted an even-par 72 in round two, a five-stroke improvement that lifted him into a tie for 20th at 149. That second-round 72 was the second-lowest single round any Elmhurst golfer posted at the event.

Anay Saxena was the team's steadiest performer, carding matching 77s for a 154 total and a tie for 39th. Saxena also showed improvement over the prior week. At the Spartan Double Gun on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Aurora Country Club, he shot 153 and tied for 25th.

Brandon Sweeney shot 81 in each round to finish at 162, tied for 73rd. Lachlan Bowen rounded out the five-man lineup at 170, tied for 90th.

Elmhurst posted a team total of 610, shooting identical rounds of 305. That marked a 13-stroke improvement over the 623 the team posted at the Spartan Double Gun, where the Bluejays finished ninth. Smith also improved individually, dropping from a 152 at Aurora Country Club to 145 at Washington County.

Wartburg College finished one spot ahead of Elmhurst at the WLC Invitational with a 604 team total, according to the Knights' athletics department.

The Bluejays are next scheduled to compete at the Firebird Fall Invite, hosted by Carthage College at Ives Grove Golf Links in Racine, Wis. The Elmhurst athletics department listed the event for Sept. 14-15, while the Carthage schedule shows Sept. 16.
