An Elmhurst Little League team will play for a state championship for the first time in program history.

The Elmhurst 10U squad faces Chicago's Ridge Beverly at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, at Roseland Little League, 12483 S. Michigan Ave. in Chicago. Head coach Mike Williams and assistant coaches Daniel Morrison and Dan Nagy have guided the 12-player roster into the state bracket.

Supporters say no Elmhurst Little League team has reached the state tournament before, according to Patch, which first reported the milestone Monday, August 3.

The team issued a statement rallying the community: "These boys have earned every bit of this moment, and now it's our turn to show up big. Come out, wear your Elmhurst colors (royal blue and white), and help pack the stands!"

Ridge Beverly enters the game after dominating the District 7 championship round, beating East Side Little League 22-0 on July 7 and 15-4 on July 8 in back-to-back games at Hegewisch, according to the Beverly Review.

The Elmhurst roster features Orlando Cardenas, Lincoln Nagy, Jack Morrison, Ace Madigan, Connor Boyd, Jack Novotny, Leo Williams, Parker Simonds, Ryan Kalkowski, Shane Palmer, TJ Wold, and Westin Evans. Several players share surnames with the coaching staff.

The state tournament is hosted at Roseland Little League, the same south-side Chicago complex that has staged multiple Illinois Little League state brackets this summer. Fans are asked to wear royal blue and white to fill the stands.

If Elmhurst wins Wednesday, the team advances deeper into the state bracket. Subsequent opponents and game times have not been announced.
