Villa Park residents can learn the basics of bachata, a social dance rooted in the Dominican Republic, at a free class at the public library on Thursday, Sept. 10.

The Villa Park Public Library will host the Introduction to Bachata session from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 305 S. Ardmore Ave. No partner is needed. Desueño Dance, a Chicago-area company that teaches salsa, bachata, cha-cha and Latin jazz across the western suburbs, will lead the class.

The library's event listing describes bachata's rhythms and steps as fueling the style's fast-growing popularity worldwide. The class covers foundational moves and is geared toward beginners.

Registration is required. Residents can sign up through the library's event page at vppl.info.
