The former Kong Dog storefront at 113 Schiller St. has a new tenant. The Bibim House, a fast-casual Korean-Japanese fusion restaurant, opened Tuesday, June 9, in downtown Elmhurst's City Centre district, filling a vacancy next door to Chipotle with bibimbap bowls, poke, and teriyaki plates.

The menu also includes Korean street food, small plates, and premium truffle poke bowls, according to the restaurant's website. Hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Closed Mondays.

The Bibim House is the seventh new food-and-drink business to open in the Elmhurst area since March, a run that has reshaped several blocks of the downtown dining scene. Playa Bowls opened Saturday, June 6, at 359 S. Illinois Route 83. Maple & Yolk opened in May at 254 N. York St. Before that came Zodiac Cafe on April 17 at 112 W. Park Ave., Candycopia on April 9 at 116 N. York St., Quad Edge Pizza on March 25 at 570 S. York St., and Pronto Italian Sandwiches on March 9 at 105 N. York St. Naansense, an Indian street food restaurant, is also expected to open at 116 N. York St. this summer, according to Hey Elmhurst's new-business tracker.

Amara Andrew of Hey Elmhurst, a local blog that tracks commercial activity in the city, reported the June 9 opening and described the concept as geared toward diners looking for a quick, health-conscious lunch or dinner option.

The space at 113 Schiller St. sits on the east side of City Centre, with Gia Mia pizza bar three doors down at 116 Schiller St. The restaurant is already listed on the City of Elmhurst's Explore Elmhurst tourism directory. It can be reached at 331-979-7519.

The City Centre merchant directory at elmhurstcitycentre.com had not yet added The Bibim House as of Tuesday, July 1, though the restaurant has been open and serving customers for more than three weeks.
