Courts Plus members who can't use the facility during its ongoing flood recovery can now pause their payments for up to a year with no reactivation fee.

The Elmhurst Park District announced the "Flood Temporary Suspension" option Tuesday, Aug. 11, as part of a facility update detailing what has reopened and what remains off-limits more than two weeks after a July 27 storm flooded the lower level.

The majority of Courts Plus is now operating on temporary flooring. Three spaces remain closed. Permanent floors have not been installed yet in the Group Ex Studio, the Fitness Studio and Racquetball Court 1.

Group exercise classes have moved to the upper-level Multi Purpose Room on a temporary schedule. Martial arts programming has relocated entirely to the Eldridge Park Recreation Building, an Elmhurst Park District facility in Eldridge Park that normally hosts preschool and summer camp programs. Massage services remain available but have shifted to a different room within Courts Plus.

Park district hires engineering firm for drainage fix

The park district said it has hired an engineering firm to address the root drainage problem that caused the flooding. The firm has been on site and is evaluating the situation, according to the Aug. 11 update. No timeline or cost estimate for the permanent fix has been released.

As we reported July 29, the July 27 storm knocked out power at Courts Plus and eight other park district sites. The facility first partially reopened July 30 with only the main level accessible, and the lower level has since reopened on temporary flooring.

The park district's update did not address the status of the Courts Plus pool, which was closed for scheduled maintenance before the flood. Members with questions can reach the park district at (630) 993-8922.
