A week-long search for a missing Naperville man ended at the east quarry near the 200 block of North West Avenue, where an Elmhurst police drone located the body of Gabriel De Sagun, 28, in the water on Monday, July 27.

The DuPage County coroner's office positively identified De Sagun, Elmhurst police said in a statement released the same day.

De Sagun was last seen walking south on West Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Streets just before 3 p.m. on Monday, July 20, according to Elmhurst police. A family member had dropped him off to pick up his car from a parking lot on West Avenue, but he never returned to the family's home in Naperville.

Officers found De Sagun's car sitting unoccupied in a townhome parking lot in the 200 block of North West Avenue. The east quarry sits directly adjacent to that block. A townhome resident provided police with video showing De Sagun walking on West Avenue, according to CBS Chicago.

The search spanned seven days and drew local and regional public safety partners. On Friday, July 24, approximately 75 Elmhurst and mutual aid officers and firefighters conducted a daylong operation across both the east and west quarry zones, using brush tools, K-9 teams, boats, side scan sonar, and an underwater drone, Elmhurst police said. Crews covered rocky, foliage-covered terrain and flooded water retention areas.

Daily drone flights over the quarry continued from the start of the search until De Sagun's body was located.

Police Chief Michael McLean thanked first responders from Elmhurst and neighboring agencies, as well as local volunteers who joined the search effort. "On behalf of the Elmhurst Police Department, I extend my deepest condolences to Gabriel's family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time," McLean said in the department's statement.

The investigation continues in coordination with the DuPage County coroner's office. Elmhurst police said no additional information was available for release as of Monday, July 27. No cause or manner of death has been disclosed.
