York's girls volleyball team carries a 12-4 record into a West Suburban Silver Conference match against 19-2 Glenbard West on Tuesday, Sept. 22, according to Patch.

The Hilltoppers, despite a 2-1 tournament loss to St. Ignatius College Prep on Sept. 19, bring one of the conference's strongest rosters to Elmhurst.

Glenbard West is built around senior setter Cara Herbert, a four-year starter committed to Loyola Maryland who entered the season with 2,192 career assists, according to Shaw Local's preseason preview. Herbert recorded 18 assists in each of the Hilltoppers' last two reported matches, wins over Downers Grove South and St. Charles North.

"It all starts with (Herbert)," Glenbard West coach Dan Scott told Shaw Local on Sept. 3. "She sets the tone, betters the ball for all of our hitters and they just have full confidence that they can swing on most balls that she sets."

Herbert is far from alone. Senior outside hitter Adria Timpone led the Hilltoppers with seven kills and four aces in their Sept. 10 win over St. Charles North, Shaw Local reported. Seniors Ella Rowe and Farryn Burridge, an American University commit, give Glenbard West multiple college commits in the lineup.

York coach Danny Piwowarczyk returned seven starters from a squad that went 24-13 and reached a regional final last season. Junior outside hitter Eileen Carroll, who posted 220 digs and 189 kills a year ago, anchors the attack. Senior setter Madelene Braathen tallied 320 assists last season, and her sister Emma Braathen handles the back row at libero.

The Dukes opened 2026 with a straight-set win over Timothy Christian on Aug. 25 and won their pool at the Wheaton North Blue and Gold Invitational the next day. A three-set loss to Downers Grove North on Sept. 8, by scores of 12-25, 25-19 and 11-25, was one of York's four defeats. The York High School Athletics department posted the result on X.

Piwowarczyk said in Shaw Local's Aug. 24 preseason preview that the amount of work his team put in would determine its conference finish.

York went 2-4 in conference play last season. Glenbard West finished 3-3 but posted a 28-10 overall record. Both teams carry stronger records through the first month than they did a year ago.

The Dukes also earned the 2026 American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award, a national honor for programs with a team GPA of at least 3.3, according to Elmhurst CUSD 205.

First serve Tuesday is at York.
