First responders, dispatchers and military members heading to Willowbrook High School's home football games Friday, Sept. 11, will get in free and receive a free meal at the concession stand.

The Villa Park school's athletics department announced the offer on X Wednesday, Sept. 9, calling on families and community members to spread the word. The gesture marks the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The offer covers all local first responders, dispatchers and military members, whether active or veteran. Qualifying attendees must arrive in uniform or with credentials. Each receives free admission and a meal that includes a hot food item, chips and a drink.

Two games are on the schedule. A flag football game kicks off at 5 p.m., followed by a tackle football game at 7:30 p.m. Both are at Willowbrook, 1250 S. Ardmore Ave. in Villa Park. The school is part of DuPage High School District 88.

The athletics department's post tagged the Willowbrook football program, the school's main account and Principal Dr. Dan Krause. No school official has commented publicly beyond the announcement.

Villa Park will see at least two Sept. 11 observances on Friday. A separate Patriot Day Ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. at 1440 S. Ardmore Ave., according to the Village of Villa Park's events calendar. That ceremony marks the 25th anniversary of the federally designated National Day of Service and Remembrance and will include members of the Villa Park Fire and Police departments alongside the Willowbrook High School Choir.

The morning ceremony is at the fire station. The football games follow that evening at the school, less than a quarter-mile south on the same street.
