Timothy Christian's boys golf team has broken two of its own program records in the opening weeks of the 2026 season, with senior Miles VanProoyen leading the way.

The Trojans posted a 150 for a new nine-hole team scoring record and a 301 for a new 18-hole team record, according to the school's athletics department. The team posted those records despite graduating three seniors from the lineup that finished fifth in Class 1A at the IHSA State Finals in October 2025 at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington.

Montini Invitational

At the Montini Invitational, held at Village Links of Glen Ellyn, the Trojans shot 305 to finish second in a 20-team field that included Class 1A, 2A and 3A programs. St. Viator took first.

VanProoyen's round stood out. He opened with a double bogey, then reeled off five birdies over his remaining 17 holes to finish at 2-under-par 70. That earned him low individual honors, edging the runner-up by a single stroke.

VanProoyen, a senior, has been building toward this kind of performance since childhood. In a Timothy Christian profile published in July 2025, he recalled picking up the game early: "I first hit a golf ball at about age four, and I loved it immediately."

His trajectory at the state level has been steep. In fall 2024, he finished fourth individually at the IHSA Class 1A state tournament, which the school called the highest individual finish in program history at that time. In fall 2025 as a junior, he tied for fifth at state with a two-round score of 149, according to the Peoria Journal Star's official results.

Fresh depth

VanProoyen is not carrying the roster alone. Freshman Luke Kellough has made an immediate impact near the top of the lineup, and the team's depth has allowed Jami Brighty to rotate players through the top six spots, according to the school's athletics department.

Sophomore Aidan Brighty has also emerged as a key contributor. At the IHSA Class 1A regional at Johnsburg earlier in the 2025-26 cycle, both he and VanProoyen posted matching 74s.

The Trojans' next tests include a conference match against Northridge Prep and the Providence Invitational in New Lenox. The Providence field will include players committed to Auburn and Georgia Tech.
