York's boys soccer season ended with a loss to Conant on Tuesday, Oct. 20, according to MaxPreps.

The Dukes finished 4-12-3 overall and 2-4 in conference play, placing fifth. Last season, York went 9-9-1.

Head coach Jordan Stopka entered the year with a young roster. Nine of the Dukes' players were sophomores, and the team faced a demanding early schedule that included Libertyville, Lane Tech and Naperville North, according to a Shaw Local season preview published in August.

"It is looking like the beginning of the season might be tough sledding for this team as they have an extremely difficult schedule and nine sophomores on the roster," Stopka said in the August preview. "The quicker the younger players gel with the older guys the better the year will be."

The preview noted that youth was on the Dukes' side heading into the season. It named senior midfielder and defender Jacob Roubitchek as a next-level player with multiple college offers. Senior forward Cole Shearer, senior midfielder Patrick Nazar and sophomore midfielder and forward Moses Palaci were also listed among the top returning players.

Sophomores Will Roubitchek, Jair Hernandez and Benjamin Flores were identified as top newcomers entering the fall. Will Roubitchek and Jacob Roubitchek, both listed on the preseason roster, share a last name.

The season did not unfold the way Stopka hoped. York's four wins and three draws against 12 losses marked a significant decline from the prior year's .500 record. The Dukes' 2-4 conference mark left them in the bottom half of the standings.

Stopka and assistant coach D. Alvarez led the staff through the full season. The loss to Conant was York's final game of the fall.
