A ski-masked person and at least two other vehicles fled a North York Street gas station on Wednesday, Sept. 2, after an Elmhurst police officer pulled into the lot.

Two cars had entered the Thorntons at 476 N. York St. under suspicious circumstances, Patch reported, citing Elmhurst police records. A person in the first car wore a ski mask and used a T-shirt to cover the vehicle's license plate. The second car displayed no plate at all.

Both cars left as soon as the officer arrived.

Investigators later determined a third car was also part of the group. Officers tried to stop that vehicle, but the driver fled onto Interstate 290, according to Patch's account of the police report.

The Elmhurst Police Department has not released the time of the incident, descriptions of the suspects or vehicles, or confirmed whether a crime was attempted. The department classified the incident as suspicious activity. No arrests have been reported.
