The Elmhurst Walk-In Assistance Network's online auction has raised $17,500 as of Monday, June 29, with bidding open through Wednesday, July 15, at 7 p.m., according to the organization's GiveButter campaign page.

The "In Lieu of the 'Cue" auction replaces EWAN's longtime 'Cue for a Cause barbecue fundraiser, which the nonprofit concluded after more than a decade to pursue new fundraising strategies. The final 'Cue, held August 31, 2025, raised $68,600, according to EWAN's website. Multiple auction packages are available at givebutter.com/c/ewanauction/auction, with every winning bid supporting local families.

Since 1997, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit at 125 W. Church St. has provided more than $2 million in emergency financial assistance to Elmhurst neighbors since 1997, according to the organization. Services include rent and mortgage help, utility payments, car repairs, dental care, prescription assistance, and a food pantry.

In a testimonial on EWAN's website, a mother of three identified as Samantha said volunteers covered her rent after she lost her husband and then her job. "If we didn't have that option we would've been homeless," she said.

The organization says it serves more than 200 households each year, with roughly 1,000 visits to its door annually. More than 60 volunteers staff the operation.

Who qualifies and how to get help

To be eligible for assistance, residents must have lived in Elmhurst at least 90 days, have children in an Elmhurst school, or belong to a covenant church in Elmhurst. Summer hours through July are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon, with after-hours appointments available.

Residents can bid on auction packages at givebutter.com/c/ewanauction/auction through July 15. Donations are also accepted via credit card, Venmo, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other methods at elmhurstwalkin.org/donate.

Auction packages currently listed on the campaign page include five reserved York High School parking spots at Elmhurst Presbyterian Church, a Lake Michigan yacht cruise with a view of Navy Pier fireworks, a three-night VIP experience with the Elmhurst Symphony, tickets to the Chicago Bears' game against the New Orleans Saints, and a day at River Forest Country Club.
