Endeavor Health Elmhurst Hospital landed at No. 11 on U.S. News & World Report's 2026-2027 list of the best regional hospitals in Illinois, placing the community hospital alongside major Chicago medical centers in the annual rankings released Aug. 4.

That's out of nearly 4,500 hospitals evaluated nationwide.

The recognition puts Elmhurst Hospital in a group of just 505 hospitals that earned the "Best Regional Hospitals" designation. In the Chicago metro area, 20 hospitals made the cut, the third-largest concentration in the country behind New York (28) and Los Angeles (25).

Elmhurst Hospital ranked ahead of Northwestern Medicine's McHenry/Huntley/Woodstock hospitals (No. 12), Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center (No. 13) and Advocate Trinity Hospital (No. 14), according to The Telegraph's published list. Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Rush University Medical Center, both in Chicago, topped the state at No. 1.

The methodology this year placed greater emphasis on risk-adjusted patient outcomes, including survival and complication rates, while reducing the weight given to hospital size, staffing, technology and reputation, according to U.S. News. Hospitals were evaluated across at least 23 procedures and conditions, from hip replacements to heart failure treatment, drawing on more than 800 million records of patient care. The report also introduced four new regional specialty rankings this year covering cancer; cardiology, heart and vascular surgery; orthopedics; and rehabilitation.

U.S. News editors said the state and metro rankings highlight community hospitals that perform well but may not carry national name recognition.

The ranking arrives during a growth period for the hospital, which is in its centennial year. In late July, Endeavor Health Elmhurst Hospital opened a 16-bed observation unit as the first completed project in a broader campus expansion.

"For 100 years, this hospital has been a pillar of the community, and we are committed to evolving to meet its needs for the next century," hospital president Dr. Kim Darey said July 24, when the observation unit opened.

Future phases of the expansion include a two-story addition above the Nancy Knowles Cancer Center and a new medical office building.
