The Elmhurst Park District Board approved a Building Enclosure Commissioning agreement and a change order for security cameras and card-access readers for the Wagner Community Center at its Monday, July 13 meeting, advancing two contracts for the referendum-funded facility expected to open in fall 2027.

The district has not publicly released dollar amounts or vendor names for either contract. The board agenda listed both as action items but did not include the attached staff memos with cost details.

The commissioning contract drew six proposals after the district issued a Request for Qualifications on Thursday, May 22, according to the July 2026 progress report posted on the Elmhurst Park District's referendum updates page.

Construction progress

The same progress report shows the StormTrap stormwater management system is more than 50 percent installed at the construction site, where concrete foundations for precast wall panels were poured following lime stabilization of saturated soils earlier this spring. A kick-off meeting with interior design firm Dewberry has been held to begin furniture selection.

The board also previously approved the project's sixth bid package, which covers wood flooring, interior and exterior painting, site concrete, landscaping and irrigation, asphalt and paving, fencing and gates, site furnishings, a flagpole, and playground equipment. That package was opened May 21 and approved at an earlier meeting, per the district's progress reports.

The replacement center will be four times the size of the original building, which was constructed as a school in the 1950s and converted to a community center in 2003.

Prairie Path restroom heads to zoning hearing

The Wagner Center isn't the only referendum project moving forward. Permits for a new heated restroom building along the Prairie Path near the gazebo at Spring Road have been filed with the City of Elmhurst and DuPage County, according to the July progress report. Soil sampling and underground utility locating are complete.

A required zoning hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21. Park Board President Kevin Graf's board approved the Spring Road location at its Monday, January 26 meeting, and the district's progress report projects construction wrapping by year's end.

A separate Crestview Park restroom building permit has also been filed with the city, with its own zoning hearing notice posted for July 21.

Voters authorized all three projects through a bond referendum in November 2024. Residents can track construction updates on the district's referendum page at epd.org/referendum.
